🎒 !shufflechildhood Command

Randomly replace your pawn’s childhood backstory for coins — the fastest way to remove annoying disabled jobs from your viewer’s pawn! Only shuffles backstories that have work restrictions (RimWorld limitation). Perfect for cleaning up “useless” early-game pawns. 🎲🧠

TL;DR: !shufflechildhood costs coins (default 1000) and gives your assigned pawn a brand-new childhood backstory from the pool of valid ones for their race/xenotype. Great for removing disabled jobs without changing stats.

🎯 Command Syntax

Basic usage: !shufflechildhood textExamples:

  • !shufflechildhood → Spends your coins and shuffles childhood backstory (if valid)
  • No arguments needed — just type the command!

Requirements:

  • You must have an assigned pawn (!join or !mypawn first)
  • Pawn must have a childhood backstory
  • Current backstory must have disabled jobs (workDisables ≠ None)
  • Enough coins (default ChildhoodWager = 1000)

Note: Colonist backstories are blocked (they have no disabled jobs by design).

🔥 Why Shuffle Childhood? (Super Important!)

Childhood backstories in RimWorld often lock pawns out of key jobs:

  • Disabled jobs = pawn literally cannot do that work type (e.g. no Mining, no Doctoring)
  • Shuffling = quick way to remove those restrictions without restarting the pawn

Viewers love this because:

  • One command = instant quality-of-life upgrade
  • Feels like they’re “fixing” their viewer-colonist live
  • Pairs perfectly with !mypawn to show the new backstory right away

Streamer tip: Use during slow moments or when a viewer complains about their pawn’s “trash backstory”. High engagement + funny “I got the worst one again!” moments.

📊 How the Shuffle Works

  1. Checks you have enough coins → deducts ChildhoodWager
  2. Filters all childhood backstories that are:
    • Compatible with your pawn’s race + xenotype (full HAR support included)
    • Different from current backstory
  3. Picks one at random → applies instantly
  4. RimWorld limitation: Stats/skills do NOT change retroactively (only future disabled-job removal)

Success message example: 🎒 Childhood backstory shuffled for 1000 💰! New backstory: Street Urchin textEdge-case messages (shown in chat):

  • ❌ No pawn assigned
  • ❌ No childhood backstory
  • ❌ Colonist backstory (blocked)
  • ❌ No disabled jobs to remove
  • ❌ Not enough coins
  • ❌ No other valid backstories for your race/xenotype

⚙️ Settings You Can Tweak (In-Game Command Editor)

Go to RICS tab → Command Editor → Search “Childhood”.

Easier / more viewer-friendly:

  • Lower ChildhoodWager (e.g. 500-750)
  • (Future toggle if you want to allow Colonist shuffles)

Harder / higher stakes:

  • Raise ChildhoodWager (1500-3000)

All backstory filtering is automatic and respects HAR alien races + xenotypes.

💡 Tips & Best Practices

  • Always run !mypawn before and after to show the old vs new backstory in chat
  • Great combo with !shuffleadulthood for full backstory refresh
  • Tell viewers: “Only works if your current backstory has disabled jobs!”
  • Perfect for new viewers joining the colony — quick “welcome upgrade”
  • Works on any race (including HAR aliens) thanks to the built-in compatibility layer

No pawn? → “❌ You don't have an active pawn in the colony. Use !pawn to purchase one!”
