RIME Config (macOS Squirrel)

A clean English-only RIME input method — no Chinese, no switching headaches. Just English with smart autocomplete.

Why

Type a few letters → get word suggestions → press Tab/number to complete. No spell-check popup, no AI assistant bloating your RAM. Just a lightweight local dictionary doing what it does best.

What It Does

  • Pure English — no Chinese mode to accidentally fall into, no Ctrl+Space juggling
  • Autocomplete — type partial words, get candidates from a 25k-word dictionary (powered by rime-ice)
  • Two modes, one key away:
    • Predictive — type and see word suggestions inline
    • English — raw ASCII passthrough (for terminal, code, etc.)
  • Minimal footprint — no cloud, no telemetry, no background processes

Files

File Purpose
default.custom.yaml Key bindings, schema list, page size
easy_en.custom.yaml Mode label text (Predictive / English)
easy_en.schema.yaml easy_en schema definition
easy_en.dict.yaml English dictionary (~25k words from rime-ice)
squirrel.custom.yaml Squirrel appearance (vertical, inline preedit, Google color scheme)

Key Bindings

Key Action
Shift_L Toggle Predictive ↔ English, commit current input (no clear)
Shift_R Toggle Predictive ↔ English, clear current input
Caps_Lock Commit raw input

Mode Labels

  • Predictive — autocomplete/suggestion mode (type and see candidates)
  • English — pure ASCII input (for terminal, Vim, etc.)

Install

git clone https://github.com/tangshui9527/rime-config.git ~/Library/Rime
killall -HUP Squirrel # redeploy

Notes

  • build/ and *.userdb/ are gitignored (auto-generated)
  • Dictionary: ~25k curated English words + internet abbreviations from rime-ice, not the bloated 740k-entry original
  • Requires macOS Squirrel (鼠须管)
