Two changes needed before the v2.0.0 release workflow can produce a correct wheel:

  1. Bump version in pyproject.toml, CITATION.cff, and mergese.py from 0.2.0 to 2.0.0. Without this the python -m build step produces a wheel named mergese-0.2.0-*.whl even though the tag says v2.0.0, and mergese --version reports 0.2.0.

  2. Fix the release-smoke step in release.yml. The previous command pip install dist/.whl ".[server]" was run inside /tmp/release-smoke (no pyproject.toml there), which failed with "Directory '.[server]' is not installable". The correct syntax attaches the extra to the wheel path: WHL=$(ls dist/.whl | head -n 1) pip install "${WHL}[server]" Mirrors the pattern already in wheel.yml.

Summary

Risk + rollback

Testing

  • pytest passes locally
  • If touching the server: smoke-tested with python server/app.py and a curl against the changed endpoint
  • If touching the UI: hard-refreshed the browser and clicked through
  • If touching presets/data: verified the preset validator in .github/workflows/ci.yml still passes

Deploy note (fill if the merge needs an operator action beyond git pull && systemctl restart)

Two changes needed before the v2.0.0 release workflow can produce a correct
wheel:

1. Bump `version` in pyproject.toml, CITATION.cff, and mergese.py from
   0.2.0 to 2.0.0. Without this the `python -m build` step produces a
wheel named `mergese-0.2.0-*.whl` even though the tag says v2.0.0,
   and `mergese --version` reports 0.2.0.

2. Fix the release-smoke step in release.yml. The previous command
     pip install dist/*.whl ".[server]"
was run inside /tmp/release-smoke (no pyproject.toml there), which
failed with "Directory '.[server]' is not installable". The correct
syntax attaches the extra to the wheel path:
     WHL=$(ls dist/*.whl | head -n 1)
     pip install "${WHL}[server]"
Mirrors the pattern already in wheel.yml.
