Hey there! I'm Alex Ruger, composer turned software developer and music technologist.
I believe that making music on a computer has a lot of room for improvement, and that utilizing the open source tools and protocols that made the internet great in the first place will provide at least part of the path that'll get us there.
I work for composer Bear McCreary and his production company Sparks & Shadows, doing everything from writing internal tools, automating the music production and asset delivery pipeline, provisioning and maintaining our servers and other infrastructure, web development, audio plugin and sample library development, and of course maintaining Bear's Cubase and Vienna Ensemble Pro template.
I'm also a freelance technical consultant for composers, audio engineers, VFX artists, and any other creatives who use a composer. Most recently, I have been providing full-stack web development services for Tape Op; they even let me write articles from time to time (to their peril).
