Hi there πŸ‘‹

I'm a lecturer in computational atmospheric chemistry at the University of Bristol, in the Atmospheric Chemistry Research Group, where I lead a group working on atmospheric chemistry, chemistry-climate modelling and machine learning. My pronouns are he/him.

Funded projects in the group use GEOS-Chem, UKESM1 and develop UKCA.

what I'm working on

  • βš—οΈ Chemistry for CliMA: My Julia journey continues via work in ClimaAtmos.jl with Tapio Schneider's group at Caltech, and I'm interested in improving how interactive chemistry becomes affordable and calibratable in large ensembles.
  • πŸ›°οΈ Foundation models for air quality: This year, I had a short fellowship to work on fine-tuning pretrained weather models to ground-station observations in Southeast Asia, working with Mohd Talib Latif and Maggie Ooi at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
  • πŸ”₯ I'm enjoying working on a new project on interactive fire and dust chemistry in CESM, on Bristol and Isambard HPC, to scope contributions to RAMIP
  • 🌍 Work continues on a project about the COP26 Global Methane Pledge
  • 🌍 The Global Carbon Project CO budget: led by colleagues at UC Irvine and at JAMSTEC, where I have a visiting position.
  • πŸ₯³ I'm excited to be a co-I of the Schmidt Futures Virtual Earth System Research Institute VESRI FETCH4 project focusing on the role of methane in the Earth system. This project is led by Alex Turner (UW), Lee Murray and Vasily Vlasenko.

news

I'm open to collaborations

  • πŸ“¦ Box models for atmospheric chemistry: BOXMOX in the cloud, SADKAT for droplet drying, and the UKCA box model.
  • πŸ“š Data-driven science on the CMIP6/7 archives.
  • πŸ› οΈ LLM tools for research practice. In this we are supported by our youngest group member: wheres-the-tea-bot.
