obsidian-notewise is an experimental Obsidian plugin for faster note linking and richer link metadata. It can turn the selection or word at the cursor into a wiki/Markdown link, search for a destination note, edit links, and expose target note properties for styling and integrations such as Dataview.
- TypeScript
- Obsidian plugin API
- esbuild
- Jest-style unit test files for utility and frontmatter behavior (not currently wired into an
npm testscript) - Optional Dataview integration
npm install
npm run build
npm run devFor manual testing, copy or link main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css into <vault>/.obsidian/plugins/obsidian-notewise/.
Work in progress. Linking and metadata utilities are implemented, but some commands and observer lifecycle paths are incomplete.
- The manifest marks the plugin desktop-only.
- Some code accesses undocumented Obsidian internals and suppresses type errors.
- Command naming and DWIM behavior are unfinished.
- Observer cleanup and Dataview paths need integration testing.
- There is no automated release workflow or user-facing installation package.
- The current source does not pass its TypeScript build because several settings, modal, Dataview, and test-fixture paths are unfinished.
Complete link editing and DWIM semantics, replace internal API access where possible, fix lifecycle cleanup, add Obsidian integration tests, document settings, and establish versioned releases.
