Background
The search block includes a button that allows users to switch to a map view. Currently, the map view button uses the automatically selected colour based on the domain's primary, secondary and tertiary colours.
Roskilde Municipality would like the map view button to be more visually prominent, as it is an important alternative way of exploring search results but can currently be overlooked by users.
We would like to support one of the following approaches:
A visual attention effect that makes the map view button stand out, e.g. a subtle bounce, animation or similar visual cue.
A dedicated colour setting for the map view button in the domain settings, allowing each domain to select a specific colour that is more prominent than the automatically selected primary, secondary or tertiary colour.
The preferred solution could be determined based on technical feasibility and UX/accessibility considerations.
Acceptance Criteria
Option 1 – Visual highlighting
The map view button can be visually highlighted to attract users' attention.
The visual effect is subtle and does not negatively impact usability or accessibility.
The effect does not interfere with keyboard navigation, focus states or screen readers.
The effect can be implemented consistently across domains using the search block.
Option 2 – Dedicated colour setting
A dedicated colour setting for the map view button is available in the domain settings.
The selected colour is applied specifically to the map view button.
The map view button no longer has to rely exclusively on the automatically selected primary, secondary or tertiary colour.
The selected colour is applied consistently wherever the map view button is displayed.
The implementation supports sufficient colour contrast in accordance with accessibility requirements.
If no dedicated colour is selected, the existing automatic colour selection remains the default behaviour.
General
The chosen solution works consistently across all domains using the search block.
Existing functionality of the map view button remains unchanged.
The solution is responsive and works on both desktop and mobile.
