I had reverted the strings back to the translation, started a sync and the result was that this and the de changes got reverted to english:

We are using tx push -s which according to https://github.com/transifex/cli means we only push the source.
But since in this xcstrings files everything is in the source I guess that is the problem

according to https://help.transifex.com/en/articles/9459174-xcode-strings-catalogs-xcstrings#h_5c34bd0185 this is the expected behaviour -- the entire file including all languages will be pushed/pulled, regardless of which language was requested 😕

There is the idea to strip all non-English (source) translations from the file and then push it one time to have the initial keys on Transifex. That will probably result in erasure of the existing translations, as per Transifex documentation linked above. After that, only pulling the translations from Transifex would be the interim solution for now to at least have a starting point for translators and the integration into the package. From that on we would need to manually add strings on Transifex to avoid overwrites.

In context of pulling translations, I reported a mildly relevant issue about Transifex CLI and its handling of string catalogs:

It appears like the process for Xcode string catalogs is figured out now. It is documented for the desktop client file provider extension here:

In a nutshell:

• When updating the Transifex keys, then a pull must be done in translator mode without any percentage threshold before pushing the updating catalog back.
• When only pulling in new translations into the project, additional filters like language progress percentage or review state can be used.
• Extra tooling as in the desktop client is required to sanitize the Xcode string catalogs.
