MAC address pass through user space solution

Set of scripts to enable the use of MAPT with devices that use Realtek network cards having an idProduct different from 8153, since the team maintaining the official kernel no longer accepts hardcoded idProduct entries. The recommended approach is to create user-space solutions like this one.

This solution consists of three scripts:

• 90-tbt-MAPT.rules: Udev rules that detect when a network device with ID 8156 is connected to the machine and trigger the execution of the udev-MAPT.sh script.
• udev-MAPT.sh: Script that reconfigures the MAC address of the newly activated network interface, using the MAC address provided by the BIOS for this specific scenario.
• udev-MAPT-installer.sh: Installation script that properly installs the udev rules and the associated script to be executed in the target environment. - Used only on compressed format

Running the solution

Compressed format

To apply the user space solution, follow the steps below:

1. Ensure the execution permission for "udev-MAPT-installer.sh", running the command:

sudo chmod +x udev-MAPT-installer.sh

2. Run the installer script:

sudo ./udev-MAPT-installer.sh

3. A message "MAC Address pass-thru solution installed." should appear on your terminal, and now you can unplug and plug the Dock to see the MAPT working. o Obs.:
   • To use this solution, the system must meet the following requirements:
   • Linux kernel 6.7.0 or above;
   • "ip" package installed - Present in most modern distros;
   • Need be a Thinkpad machine.

.deb format

To install the .deb format you only need to run:

sudo dpkg -i thinkpad-MAPT.deb

And to remove run

sudo dpkg -r thinkpad-MAPT
