A tiny macOS menu-bar app that automatically switches your default web browser based on the active Focus mode. Example: in Work Focus your default becomes Chrome; in Personal Focus it becomes Safari.
Set it up once and it runs in the background — no interaction needed afterward except macOS's own confirmation dialog when the browser actually changes.
- macOS 26.6 or later.
- Must live in
/Applications— macOS only indexes App Intents there, so anywhere else the Focus Filter never appears and the app does nothing.
Download the app (recommended)
- Grab the latest
FocusBrowser.zipfrom the Releases page. - Unzip it and drag Focus Browser into
/Applications(not~/Applications— see Requirements). - Open it. (The build is notarized by Apple, so it opens without warnings.)
Build from source
brew install xcodegen # one-time
git clone https://github.com/jeffehobbs/FocusBrowser.git
cd FocusBrowser
./build.sh install # builds → /Applications/FocusBrowser.app- Launch the app — a 🌙 moon icon appears in the menu bar.
- Open System Settings ▸ Focus and select a Focus (e.g. Work). The app's menu has an Open Focus Settings… button for this.
- Click Add Filter, choose Focus Browser, and pick the browser you want while that Focus is on.
- Repeat for each Focus you care about. Focuses without the filter are simply left alone.
- Optionally enable Launch at login — it isn't required, since macOS launches the app on demand when a Focus changes.
That's it — switch Focus and your default browser follows, with macOS's confirmation dialog each time the browser actually changes.
