If i start dragging on the titlebar of a maximized window, at some point it will un-maximize and I can tile it with the kzones floating pop-up.
However, I have recently noticed that even if i drag a little bit, not enough to un-maximize, the pop-up shows up and i can drop the window there. This is quicker, but does not actually tile the window - it stays maximized.

Un maximize a window when it's being tiled.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Dragging a bit more until it's unmaximized before tiling it.
