npm run lint fails: ESLint cannot find an eslint.config.* file #16

The lint script (eslint src/) fails on the current main branch with:

ESLint couldn't find an eslint.config.* file.

From ESLint v9.0.0, the default configuration file is now eslint.config.*.

npm run build passes (exit 0), but npm run lint exits with code 2. This reproduces on main and on all dependabot PR heads (also with eslint 10.8.0, so it is not caused by any dependency bump). The repository has no eslint.config.js/eslint.config.mjs/eslint.config.cjs file, which is required since ESLint v9.0.0.

Suggested fix: add an eslint.config.* file (flat config) and remove the legacy .eslintrc.* file if present.
