Create a post, mark it as unlisted, and direct it at someone by including their handle as the first word of the post (I'm not sure if that part is necessary).
Then sign out, click "Back to Starling", and scroll down to the list of Latest Public Posts. You'll see your Unlisted post.
As I understand it, Unlisted posts should not show up in public feeds, except maybe to the person who made it and anyone mentioned in it.
