I'm a Principal Software Engineer at Healx, working across software engineering, data and AI.
I build Python services, APIs, data pipelines and cloud infrastructure. A significant part of my recent work focuses on building and operating AI agents in production, applying the same focus on reliability, testing and maintainability.
I enjoy debugging difficult cross-system problems, simplifying legacy systems, and designing software that other engineers and scientists can build on. Clear communication and pragmatic architecture matter as much to me as the implementation.
- Services and architecture: Python backends, APIs and maintainable systems.
- Data and platforms: data pipelines, cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code.
- Production AI agents: orchestration, agent tools and agent skills, evaluation, and integration through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Reliability: concurrency, resource lifecycles, observability and failure handling across services and agents.
Languages: Python · TypeScript · Others
Platforms & infrastructure: Google Cloud · AWS · Terraform · Docker · PostgreSQL · Ansible
I prefer the technology that makes the problem simpler, rather than a stack for its own sake.
Python, open source and local technology communities have been an important part of my work for many years:
- Active member and former organizer of Python Vigo
- Co-founder of VigoTech
- Organizer of PyConES 2024 and PyDay Galicia
- Mentor and collaborator at ANFAIA
- Organizer and contributor to A Industriosa
I regularly give talks and workshops on Python, software engineering and AI.
I write occasionally at alexhermida.dev about software engineering and the practical challenges of building production systems.
