CS2 crashing repatedly #4639

Description

@asiamann

System:

  • Steam version 1788652215

  • Distribution: Artix Linux, runit

  • Desktop session: KDE Plasma Wayland

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 FE

  • Driver: nvidia-open-dkms / nvidia-utils 615.71.09

  • Kernel: 7.2.6-zen2-1-zen

  • CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K

  • RAM: 32 GB DDR4

  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No

  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

The native Linux CS2 client exits to desktop repeatedly during map loading and while playing.
Plasma Wayland, Steam and the rest of the system remain functional.

CS2 writes Breakpad minidumps to /tmp/dumps.
No corresponding NVRM, Xid, GPU reset, OOM or kernel error appears in dmesg.

Example console.log sequence:
09/23 21:14:23 [Client] Map: "de_dust2"
09/23 21:14:30 Engine2PreBreakpadDumpFunction

Other occurrences include:
[RenderSystem] returning error texture in CTextureManagerVulkan::GetTextureResource
[RenderSystem] Bad texture dimension 1 for texture "...vtex" ... returning error texture in CTextureManagerVK::GetImageView
Engine2PreBreakpadDumpFunction

Already tested:

  • Several NVIDIA driver versions: 610.43.02, 610.43.03, 610.57.04, 615.71.09
  • Updated motherboard BIOS
  • XMP enabled and disabled
  • CS2 file integrity verification
  • Fresh Steam shader/Fossilize cache for AppID 730
  • Default Xwayland path and forced native Wayland path
  • Steam Overlay disabled
  • No Proton forced; native CS2 without forcing any compatibility tool
  • Proton always runs stable in other applications but is not currently supporting vac servers in CS2

The same hardware runs CS2 reliably under Windows 11.
