Version bump for the 0.8.4 release: decision catalog additions.

Made with Cursor

Summary by cubic

Bumps Wally to 0.8.5: adds the six D1 and GLiNER decision models to the catalog, shows model ids without the mlx- prefix, and pins the C++ desktop kit to 0.20.39.

  • Lists each model by its plain id, except when that name is itself another catalog model (the mlx- prefix then stays); pull mlx-<id> still fetches the Apple GPU build, and the shown size follows whatever build that id pulls.
  • Pins mlx-audio-swift 0.1.8, mlx-swift-lm 3.31.10, and the C++ desktop kit to 0.20.39 with refreshed checksums and regenerated bindings; the kit's Sherpa prebuilt and the Ubuntu 24.04 build host raise the Linux floor to glibc 2.39 / GLIBCXX_3.4.32 (Ubuntu 24.04+, Debian 13+), with zstd, brotli and bzip2 linked on all Linux builds.
  • Updates the Homebrew formula's placeholder download URL to the v0.8.5 tag.

Written for commit 049d19a. Summary will update on new commits.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added six decision models to the catalog: GGUF and MLX variants of LFM D1 3B, LFM D1 Omni 600M, and GLiNER 2.5 Decide.
  • Improvements
    • Model listings use backend-neutral names where applicable. Add the mlx- prefix to select an Apple GPU build; listed model sizes reflect the selected build.
  • Release Update
    • Updated Wally to 0.8.4 and the C++ kit to 0.20.39. Linux installations now require glibc 2.39 and GLIBCXX 3.4.32 or newer; supported distributions include Ubuntu 24.04+ and Debian 13+.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Wally version metadata advances to 0.8.4, and Linux compatibility requirements increase to glibc 2.39 and GLIBCXX 3.4.32. The catalog adds GGUF and MLX variants for three decision models. Grouped model listings use backend-neutral names and resolve sizes from the displayed model ID.

Changes

Release and Linux compatibility

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update release versions and kit pins
Cargo.toml, versions.toml, Formula/wally.rb, src/sys/bindings.rs, tests/golden/expected/version*
Package, product, and formula versions change to 0.8.4. The C++ kit advances to 0.20.39 with updated platform SHA-256 pins. The generated binding header and version output fixtures report Kit 0.20.39.
Set Linux ABI floors and build dependencies
versions.toml, build.rs, .github/workflows/ci.yml, .github/workflows/release.yml, scripts/build/package-wally.sh
Linux glibc and GLIBCXX floors increase to 2.39 and 3.4.32. Linux linking and build dependencies include Brotli, zstd, and bz2 for all architectures. Linux CI and release jobs use Ubuntu 24.04.
Update Linux installation checks and requirements
install.sh, README.md, docs/ENGINES.md, scripts/test/*
Installer checks and Linux documentation use the updated ABI floors and distribution versions. Tests cover the revised acceptance and refusal cases.

Model catalog and listing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Add decision model inventories and variants
src/catalog/catalog.rs
Inventories define artifacts, sizes, and SHA-256 checksums for GGUF and MLX builds of LFM D1 3B, LFM D1 Omni 600M, and GLiNER 2.5 Decide. Six Decision entries register the variants, with shared merge keys for each backend pair.
Display grouped model names and sizes
src/commands/cmd_list.rs, tests/golden/expected/local__*
Grouped rows display model names without an mlx- prefix unless the bare name collides with another catalog model. Downloaded variants still determine the local path. Size resolution uses the displayed ID and its matching variant. Golden outputs reflect updated IDs and pull instructions.

Grouped listings now use the displayed model ID to select the row size, so the previously reported size mismatch is no longer present. No supported merge-blocking risk remains.

3B, Omni, and GLiNER variant pairs to use backend-neutral names; let the backend

Review comments at @src/commands/cmd_list.rs:
- Line 134: Update the displayed-ID logic around `key.strip_prefix("mlx-")` so
MLX-only rows retain a distinct, pullable ID that resolves to the same model as
the listed row. Update the pull guidance and tests to verify the resolved model,
not just the displayed ID and size; ensure `variant_for_shown_id` does not make
a mismatched catalog alias appear valid.

🟡 Minor · Keep the size tied to the displayed ID. · cmd_list.rs:213-217

src/commands/cmd_list.rs:213-217
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Keep the size tied to the displayed ID.

When wally models list uses its default downloaded scope, group_models excludes the undownloaded GGUF variant. If only the MLX variant is downloaded, settle_row_id_and_size can leave the MLX size in row.size_bytes while the row displays the bare GGUF ID. The size column then shows the wrong build size.

Resolve the displayed ID’s catalog size independently of row.variants, or show - when that catalog entry has no known size. Add coverage with show_all=false.
