Review & testing summary

Rebased this PR onto current development. Updated package.json and package-lock.json only — left yarn.lock unchanged since CI uses npm ci.

What changed

  • nodemailer: ^9.0.1^9.1.1 (direct dependency, minor/patch bump within v9)
  • No application code changes
  • Security and bug fixes included:
    • Message access policy hardening (sandbox fixes)
    • Address parser linear-time and RFC 5322 fixes
    • Header injection and control character protections
    • Hardened user-supplied keys and URL fetching

Local testing

  1. Checked out rebased branch from latest development
  2. npm ci — installed successfully
  3. npm test157/158 test suites passed (2,243 tests); 1 pre-existing local Mongo timeout in reasonSchedulingController.test.js (unrelated to nodemailer). Email-related tests passed (emailSendingService.test.js, emailController.spec.js)

CI status (after rebase)

  • Lint Check — (update after push)
  • Tests with 10% Coverage Enforcement — (update after push)
  • SonarCloud Scan — (update after push)

Risk assessment

  • Low–medium risk — direct dependency used for email sending in emailSender.js, emailSendingService.js, and booking/reschedule controllers
  • Same major version (v9); security hardening focused on parsing and header handling
  • Recommend spot-checking email send in dev if possible
