pip install compartment && compartment initImprovements
One install gives you the app, on macOS and on Windows. pip install compartment && compartment init now puts Compartment in your menu bar or notification area straight away, and brings it back at every login. There is no separate package, no extra to remember, no second command.
Change your passphrase from the menu bar or the system tray, without opening a terminal. Unlock, lock, auto-lock, whether starting facts join your searches, and the last five things it remembered are all in the panel behind the icon.
Prefer the terminal? Say so during the install. A five second window offers a command-line only install, and closes by itself if you are not watching. Scripted installs are never asked.
Start at login works from a pip install on macOS. It previously required the .pkg, because the API involved can only register an app bundle. A pip install writes a LaunchAgent instead.
Headless installs opt out with one flag. compartment init --no-app skips the app and the login item, for servers and CI. A machine with no status bar still gets the full CLI and MCP server.
The terminal keeps doing everything it did before. This adds a front door rather than closing the old one.
Bug fixes
- Enabling start at login from a pip install on macOS could register Python as your login item instead of Compartment. A framework Python reports itself as a bundle, so the check that looked for one was satisfied by Python's own bundle.
- On Windows, starting at login opened a console window behind an app that has no window, at every sign-in, and dropped the
--vaultargument, so anyone using a vault other than the default silently got the default back after a reboot.
