I'm a software engineer and an open source maintainer. My current project is Refurbished Dinosaurs, which rebuilds overlooked PC games from the 90s and early 2000s, following ethical spec-driven reimplementation approach, where none of the original code ends up being included in the end solution. We do not do decompilations or recompilations.

Each rebuild loads the art, audio and other data from a copy of the original you own, and runs it on a new engine, so it plays natively on Windows, Linux and macOS, with original bugs fixed, and reasonable non-intrusive quality-of-life features introduced, while still preserving exact game mechanics and precise game balance of the original.

Alongside the code we publish documentation of how each original works: file formats, rules, formulas and the bugs it shipped with.

For rebuilt games that are not available for purchase anymore, we aim to collaborate with companies owning the original IP, in order to make it easy to sell those games again. We are happy to provide pro bono full technical support for such rereleases.

In order for the project to function, I need to pay for tokens that agents can burn, as well as for cloud environments where agents can run. 100% of the money that you contribute will be dedicated towards that end. I can work on one extra game for every 200 USD contributed! I might eventually hit a hard cap of how many at a time I can do, as there is still a lot of manual work involved in ensuring the quality of the end result, but for now there is plenty of space to scale.
