Deleted Users in API's response

Description

Hello, then doing a request to GET /users/{user.id}, we can't tell if a user is deleted or the username is
'Deleted User XXXXX", so i would like a way to know if an account is deleted (kinda like bots) with a value of deleted:true then an account is deleted.

Why This is Needed

As you may know, there's a law called GDRP, and i support this law, so i would like a way (as projects owner) to delete data from deleted users.

Alternatives Considered

There's none really, this is the most logic way of doing that.

In this attachments, there's one deleted user and one user renamed. Now guess which one is deleted... 👀

IIRC Discord will email bot developers when a user is deleted.
However, since user deletes are more common place nowadays, it would be nice to distinguish deleted users with a flag.

Additionally, a gateway event for when a user the bot can see is deleted (probably under the MEMBERS intent) would allow for automated data deletion.

This doesn't happen. I tested this by deleting an alt myself, and waiting the period it takes for the account to be "pruned." The username is now "Deleted User," and I observed correlated GUILD_MEMBER_REMOVE event on the server it shared with my bot, but... no email!

As far as I'm aware, that exclusively applies to user-requested account deletes, and not account deletes by other means or reasons- guessing based off the number of deleted users I've seen on guilds my bots are in and the complete lack of any such emails.

Maybe instead of being immediately on the defensive, you should read what I actually have to say. I am agreeing with you my dude(tte).

And yes, I was implying that discord was sending emails for every deleted account (or at least planning too). Although what Vex said was true, that was just for the User Requested deletes it seems.

imo send email every times a user get deleted is not efficient cuz if you maintain a large bot then your email would be flooded with discord notifications

I don't see the point of an email, that's not really viable for automation if the usecase is to clear data for deleted accounts.. it could be a gateway event (or sent to the interaction endpoint url if set and the dev opted in) instead

Not having this in the API makes it impossible to know if a user has actually deleted their account or is just faking account deletion. Just listening on GUILD_MEMBER_UPDATE/PRESENCE_UPDATE for username/avatar changes with a regex has led to false positives before where a user fakes deletion to try to evade certain security measures used by bots or server managers.

Some of the flags aren't actually badges, e.g., team user and system, and I don't think the intention for flags was that they are exclusively only for badges.

i don't know about the team, but the system i think is used to tell you that the message is an official message from discord

I am wondering why there are no answers to this issue.
I would really like to remove users data from my game when they remove their Discord account.
Please Discord... do something with this already.
Having a boolean property named deleted on GET /users/{Discord Snowflake} or just a simple 404 / 410 response is all we need.

Now is when it really matters, anyone can set their username to deleted_user_ and bots wouldn't know if that's true.

Idk if this trolling or not but, deleted users don't really have mutual friends or servers at all.
and if it doesnt have mutual friends or servers with anyone then why care about logging about them?
if you are getting the logs means they share a mutual server with your bot, thus them not being a deleted account.

Idk if this is trolling or not, but bots cannot get the servers a user is in or their friends (bots cannot have friends (:(). The point of this discussion is being able to tell whether an account is deleted and then also delete their data from a database or whatever, or at least anonymise it too, like Discord.

Besides, you don't get events for deleted accounts, thus no "logs”, and the existing logs still point to a real user whose name may be different, but you cannot differentiate them currently.
