If you asked me whether to use the technology I referenced after getting an idea from me, I would have thought about it and answered you whether to use it. It is a technology that is difficult to implement with the basic joint technology and requires additional consideration.
This idea is not a simple standard technique of joint. I think it is because my product is a battlefield technology and a technology specialized for battlefield and equipment. Joint is an old product and I know that there are no similar samples or ideas.

Isn't this idea theft? I don't know about your country, but if this happened in my country, I would have filed a lawsuit. It is a technology that cannot be thought of without the basic knowledge related to my product and my explanation, and I think you felt the need for it while listening to my explanation. The reason why this idea did not exist before is because no one was thinking about it in a field like mine, and I think it is an idea that can come from a specialized field based on automation, machine equipment, and communication equipment, not simple connections.

To clarify: on November 19, 2024, you publicly asked how to create a multi-stranded wire cable link. You shared detailed explanations and reference images in an open GitHub Discussion. Based on that publicly available conversation, Roman created a new demo – the Cables demo – to explore this concept further using JointJS+. The demo illustrates cable behavior in a digital environment and does not include or claim any proprietary implementation or intellectual property.

It's important to note that when customers subscribe to one of our paid support plans, we handle all communication privately and securely. We sign NDAs when needed, respect confidentiality, and protect any IP involved. That has always been our standard practice, and it continues to this day.

Our GitHub Discussions, on the other hand, are a place for open knowledge exchange. We encourage community members to share challenges, ideas, and suggestions – and we often turn those ideas into demos that benefit the broader ecosystem. We draw inspiration from community discussions and contribute significant time and expertise to bring those ideas to life using our own library and know-how.

In this case, Roman contributed a great deal of thoughtful work—not just on the demo, but also in addressing your earlier questions. His goal – and ours – was simply to provide meaningful support.

These days, you can find out what open source is and what a public community is by searching the Internet, so even elementary school students know. If joint was open source, I would never have said this. I naturally assumed that my ideas would have contributed to the development of open source that the public uses. If someone was helped by the features I contributed, I would be satisfied with that.

You are not an open source project. You are a for-profit company. So am I a contributor who participates in the development of joint's open source products? No. If the content I drew is included in the normal promotional content of joint, I think it is clear theft of ideas. If it is open source, you can notify users to use it usefully according to the added features as you uploaded. Not only me, but no one here will say anything.

And according to what you said, people who use paid support plans are protected by technology, and the articles posted on GitHub or other community inquiries are used as ideas for your products for the development of joint? If I make a concession and contribute only to the free jontjs, I will understand.

And you seem to have referenced the article and video I posted about connecting objects by inserting ports between them. This technique could be implemented in two papers.

1. Paper 1: How to implement multiple cables with properties using jointjs.
2. Paper 2: How to connect and implement electronic component objects with properties and ports with electrical signals inside the objects.

And I am using your products to develop my own products. I still have a lot of technical questions and will continue to ask questions about things that are technically not good or things I am curious about when using joint. This is because I am using joint+ to concretize my ideas and develop products.

Let’s set the record straight, James.

JointJS is open source and always has been. It’s licensed under the MPL license. Like any open source project, we welcome input from the community and take inspiration from the use cases and feedback people share. That’s how we build tools that are actually useful.

The demo in question uses features from JointJS+, our commercial extension. That’s why it’s not part of the open source version. And again—it doesn’t include anyone's IP.

If you choose to share ideas publicly, they may influence how the product evolves.

I know what you mean.

I am not a long-time joint user, but I am currently developing a product and am planning to develop various technologies using joint in the future.

And I think you will understand my position to some extent if you think about it from the other side. I am not trying to argue with this and do something, but I just wanted to hear your thoughts and find out what your position is on running a GitHub public community. According to your answer, this is a completely public space, so I will have to take that into consideration in the future.

My experience so far is that there are not many references, so it is inconvenient, but I am somewhat used to it now, and I know that joint is a powerful tool that can do a lot with my thoughts and ideas.
So I will be getting a lot of help from you in the future.
