Drag and drop caret disappears

Describe the bug
After dragging and dropping a block the caret for input disappears.

To Reproduce
Simply use the demo on the blocknote homepage to reproduce, no other steps or environments necessary.
I was experiencing this in my local project and went looking for examples to see if it was specific to me, but it seems it applies to the examples.

@dlgoodchild I think I would need a bit more information than what you've provided here, I think that what you want is for the selection to be moved to the block which you've just dropped? It is a little unclear what the behavior should be here, should it be the the start of the block? the end of the block? What if multiple blocks were dragged?

Notion seems to just select the block which has just been moved, which I guess is a solution to this.

OK, do you know the flashing vertical bar that shows where you're current position is when typing? That disappears after you drag and drop any block. If you click then anywhere on text to start typing, you cannot see that vertical bar to know where your position is.

Try dragging a block, then click somewhere that you'd like to start typing and you'll notice that it's not obvious the position because the flashing vertical bar doesn't show. It's not just about where to auto focus, though that's a good question.

@dlgoodchild that is what I'm referring to as the "selection", again it is not so simple to determine what it should do as I tried to express with my questions:

Notion's behavior (which I only mention since it is often our reference of UX) is to make the selection be around the block which has just moved, but this would be contrary to what you are looking for (since it would not be a text cursor (i.e. blinking insertion cursor) but instead a block selection (e.g. like a selection around an image).

I understand what you're saying, in that after dropping, where to put the selection. I get that, but the issue I'm describing is not precisely that though. Forget the "automatically decide where to put the selection/flashing bar/position" for a moment.

I drag and drop a block, nothing more.
I use my mouse and I click a specific position, say within a word, where I would like to type. There is no feedback that where I have clicked is where I'm about to input text, because the flashing vertical bar is not showing. But, if I type, the text appears where I clicked, but it's not obvious to me because the flashing bar is not showing. If I then make a format change, say bold, and then click somewhere, the flashing bar is now showing at the position where I clicked with the mouse pointer.

Thank you for describing the actual issue. I now see the issue you were referring to, next time a better description & even a screen recording would have made this clearer from the start.

It is a strange behavior that I don't have an explanation for at the moment, would need to look into it

Yep, I see that I never mentioned anything about clicking after dragging and dropping.

same issue found: custom inline content type get LOST after the block holding it is dragged. Take the official Mention example as an example: the '@Steve' was styled and uneditable at first, but when i drag the block to somewhere else, the '@Steve' change in to plain text with no purple color and it's editable.

@hohohin that is a different issue, thanks for making one. I think we will resolve that one with this: #2119
